Character Name: Jack Russell
Character's Age: late 30s (apparent), early 200s (actual)
Character Canon: Werewolf By Night (MCU)
Canon Point: After the events of the show, and thankfully once he's gotten back to Ted's place and gotten some actual clothes
Was This Character Dead Prior to Arrival? If so, did this character experience any kind of Afterlife? Nope!
Good vs. Evil: Jack is a Good person, no question about it. He maybe swings further Good than he would normally if he hadn't been a werewolf, even, because he makes a concerted effort to help people and to be kind in order to balance out any pain and violence the wolf dishes out, but at his core he's still a pretty nice guy. He rescues his friend Ted at great personal risk to himself, he tries to help Elsa's hurt leg even though she spurns him, and he tries to convince the cultists to kill him as a human rather than turn him into his wolf self because he knows he will kill many, most, even all of them. The lure of the dark side of the tunnel, towards power and pain and exploiting people, will actively disturb him to the point of discomfort, and he will turn away from it easily and without a second thought, towards the side of protection and community. It won't even tempt the wolf side of him, because the wolf mostly just wants to be left alone, or given some prey to hunt and then left alone, rather than actively wanting to hurt. He's shown to leave people alone when they aren't threatening him, after all: not just Elsa, but the butler as well, the only other person left alive after the rampage. The wolf is more of an animal than a person with abstract desires like power: all he wants is food, sleep, and plenty of room to roam.
Personality Strengths/Flaws:
Strengths:
First and foremost, Jack is a caring and compassionate individual. He takes great care never to hurt people, always trying to protect them and keep them safe, whether from hunters, other monsters, or himself. He rushes to reassure Ted as soon as he finds him, and his first instinct when finding Elsa hurt is to offer to help-- and he is clearly disappointed when she tells him no, trying again when she clearly doesn't know what she's doing with her tourniquet. He is trying to live his life better than his parents who passed down his curse. Again and again he puts himself in danger to help his friends, particularly Ted.
He's also curious, asking questions of people who he knows would kill him if they knew a little bit about him, poking at the bloodstone even before the competition begins, always wanting to know more. It drives him to move around and learn what he can of the world, as it changes and grows. This doesn't necessarily mean he understands everything-- he picked up a small bomb without knowing how to use it, and there's a clear moment of near-slapstick when the bomb doesn't work as he was told it would and he panics a little-- but he can't learn if he doesn't try.
Finally, Jack is adaptable, readily changing his plan when he needs to, such as winning Elsa to his side when he stumbles on her. He is not necessarily good at plans, given his plan for rescuing Ted involved a lot of fast talking, skating by on charisma, winging it, and "I don't know, I'll think of something", but having to make decisions on the fly to complete his goals definitely works for him most of the time. He also has an uncanny ability to know when to run versus when to try and talk, though his preference is always to try and talk.
Weaknesses:
For all he loves his people and will always come to their aid, Jack is at heart restless and hates to be stuck in one place for too long. It leaves him itchy and unhappy. It means he leaves people behind more often than not, and can only hope that those people will still be there when he returns. He will always return, it just might take months to years. Being stuck in one town for a long time is going to be difficult for him, before too long.
Unfortunately for his tendency to go too far into places he might not be welcome, Jack is also a pacifist. Two hundred years and change old, and he never did learn how to fight, nor does he have any desire to. He won't harp on it when other people want to fight, of course, but he has no plans ever to learn himself, and no qualms hiding behind someone else who happens to know how to defend themselves, and thus him. He's not cowardly, though he has no problems being seen as such if it helps his case, he just does not want to fight. It might make him a liability in missions in-game.
The mirror to Jack's cleverness is that he can be overconfident in his own skills at talking his way into something or out of trouble. Sure, he doesn't fight, but he can charm anybody into letting him see what he needs, and work out a deal with anyone who wants payment. Given his lifespan and experience in his own world, walking into a gathering of people who would want to kill him if they found out what he was in order to save a friend based on his charisma alone, it's not really an unearned confidence. The supernatural world of Boca del Wha is less familiar than his, though, and he might be more likely to misstep until he learns the culture here.
History: MCU wiki. His age is not listed there, as his history in the show is very sparse, but it was mentioned in an interview with his actor.
Appearance: Jack is a little guy, only about 5'5" tall and while he's not scrawny, he's not built particularly strongly, either. His hair is short and sometimes messy, with unrepentant cowlicks in the back of he's not careful, and a strange blue-gray color despite his apparent age of being in his mid to late 30s. He has a bright smile, and slightly crooked teeth. There's a slight accent to his voice betraying his Mexican heritage as much as his slightly darker skin and deep brown eyes, and he will readily slip into Spanish with anyone who seems to know enough to converse in it, or if he's talking to himself. He is always in motion a little bit, whether talking expressively with his hands or shifting around on his feet, or fully pacing around whenever he's not needing to sit somewhere. He also sometimes shows dog-like mannerisms, like scratching behind his ear, smiling with an open mouth rather than with teeth, or turning in a circle a couple times before sitting down.
